The main idea came from the idea that some day there is going to be a power outage and on a sunny day we are going to be staring at a field of solar panels with no power. We are also looking at getting an all electric car and don't want to be stuck in a power outage. The main restriction is that the solution can not go outside the 1 acre the town regulations allow for a ground solar installation. We also already have solar thermal on our roof.
